“Earthing” also known as “grounding” or being in contact with the earths energies, through our feet.

We can ground ourselves and gain much needed health benefits through walking barefoot in nature, also known as earthing, by sitting outside on the ground; this not only connects us to the earth and nature, there are many health benefits from practicing this. Earthing helps us receive electrons from the earth to our body. These electrons are drawn into the body through our feet from the earth and neutralize damaging free radicals which assists in reducing disease related issues such as chronic pain and acute inflammation.

Since we are connected to the frequencies of the earth; being disconnected from these energies can cause us to be unwell. When we get outside and re-connect with these beneficial earth energies we become more balanced and whole. Walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping outdoors connects us to conductive systems that transfer the Earth’s electrons from the ground into the body.

Of the many health benefits from earthing: one being that it eliminates the potentially harmful effects of the electromagnetic fields given off by all the electronic devices that surround us on a daily bases. Others have experienced many benefits such as better sleep, less pain, reduced stress and tension, and better immune function; not to mention a better connection to our planet and nature.

Earthing is a method that was practiced before shoes were invented, today most of us don’t go outside without something on our feet; in the past our ancestors walked barefoot or wore shoes made from animal skins, which gave them direct contact with the Earth. Our modern lifestyle separates us from such contact. Research suggests that being disconnected from these energies may be a major contributor to physiological dysfunction and disease. Reconnection with the Earth’s electrons has been found to promote intriguing physiological changes and subjective reports of well-being.

As this research from the US National Library of Medicine explains..

Earthing: Health Implications of Reconnecting the Human Body to the Earth’s Surface Electrons

…[“Modern lifestyle has increasingly separated humans from the primordial flow of Earth’s electrons. For example, since the 1960s, we have increasingly worn insulating rubber or plastic soled shoes, instead of the traditional leather fashioned from hides. Rossi has lamented that the use of insulating materials in post-World War II shoes has separated us from the Earth’s energy field [6]. Obviously, we no longer sleep on the ground as we did in times past.

During recent decades, chronic illness, immune disorders, and inflammatory diseases have increased dramatically, and some researchers have cited environmental factors as the cause [7]. However, the possibility of modern disconnection with the Earth’s surface as a cause has not been considered. Much of the research reviewed in this paper points in that direction.

Earthing research, observations, and related theories raise an intriguing possibility about the Earth’s surface electrons as an untapped health resource—the Earth as a “global treatment table.” Emerging evidence shows that contact with the Earth—whether being outside barefoot or indoors connected to grounded conductive systems—may be a simple, natural, and yet profoundly effective environmental strategy against chronic stress, ANS dysfunction, inflammation, pain, poor sleep, disturbed HRV, hypercoagulable blood, and many common health disorders, including cardiovascular disease. The research done to date supports the concept that grounding or earthing the human body may be an essential element in the health equation along with sunshine, clean air and water, nutritious food, and physical activity.”  PMC J Environ Public Health. 2012; 2012: 291541. Don’t we all feel better when we go to the beach and walk barefooted on the sand? Well, we don’t have to be at a beach to receive these wonderful benefits; we can be in our yards, a park, and my favorite; in a forest in communion with the peacefulness of our relations; the trees, animals, stones, plants and elements.

I’m not referring to commercial aspect to earthing, although they may have benefits; my thinking is that we have enough electronic energy around us; it’s about disconnecting from this and uniting with the natural aspects of earthing, our bodies and nature.

I practice going barefoot whenever possible, outdoors or in; it simulates the feet and can be very relaxing and helps me feel balanced and connected with nature. earthing also feels good and is very freeing.

Let’s get outdoors return to nature, remove our shoes go earthing, and enjoy the healing benefits of our amazing Mother Earth. A solution to better health and connection is right beneath our feet.
